Frequently Asked Questions

+ Why is Denco mapping buildings in the district?

Indoor maps can have a tremendous impact on public safety response by providing better situational awareness for responders, visual representation for key buildings, and improving emergency response times. As location accuracy improves, the emergency communications centers in the district will receive location information identifying not only the building from where the 9-1-1 call originates, but more precise location within the building. The addition of indoor maps integrated with our 9-1-1 software supports emergency personnel identification of specific room locations of 9-1-1 callers.

+ Is this required of commercial buildings?

No. Privately owned commercial facilities are not currently required to provide floorplan data for inclusion in the public safety systems used by emergency 9-1-1 centers in the district.

+ How much does it cost commercial entities to have their facility floorplans digitized and added to the public safety systems used by emergency communications centers in the district?

During the pilot project, there are no costs to entities providing indoor map data for inclusion in the public safety system. The ongoing maintenance of the data is covered by the 9-1-1 District.

+ How is the data used?

Denco digitizes the indoor map data and installs it on 9-1-1 workstations for public safety purposes. Data/content is not accessible to the public.

+ Who has access to the data?

Local public safety agencies such as police, fire and ambulance first responders can access the data when a 9-1-1 call is received. Denco may share data/content with other public safety entities during a 9-1-1 call that overlaps jurisdictional boundaries or for public safety purposes, such as emergency management and pre-planning exercises, incident management and post-incident response. It is not our intent to make this data accessible publicly except to the extent as may be required by law.

+ How do I proceed if I do not have a high quality floorplan?

If you would like to include your facility in the public safety systems but do not have a high quality floorplan, Denco Area 9-1-1 District can assist. We have access to resources that can assist entities create the necessary data, usually at no cost.
